Defensive-style sport shooting. Divisions/equipment categories are defined in the rulebook.
The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is a shooting sport that simulates realistic self-defense scenarios. Founded in 1996 at the request of shooters who wanted to compete with practical equipment and firearms obtainable with minimal investment.
IDPA was created as a response to perceived shortcomings in USPSA competitions, which founders Bill Wilson, Ken Hackathorn, Larry Vickers, and others felt had become "equipment races" dependent on extensively modified guns rather than shooter ability. The main goal is to test the shooter's skill, not equipment.
2023 IDPA European Championship: In June 2023, Hungary hosted the IDPA European Championship in Fót, where 414 competitors from 23 countries participated. The Hungarian team achieved outstanding results: 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medals.
