Historical target shooting

Magyar Sportlövők Szövetsége · Pistol Rifle Mixed

History

Target shooting with muzzleloaders (black powder) in historical style.

Muzzleloading sport shooting originated in the United States in the 1930s, as the last original users and makers of muzzleloading arms were dying out.

The Muzzle Loaders Associations International Committee (MLAIC) was formed in 1970 and held its first World Championship in 1971. Since then, a flourishing industry manufacturing reproductions of historic firearms has developed in the USA and Europe (particularly northern Italy).

In Hungary, the Historical Target Shooting Division (TPLSZ) coordinates competitions with regular international participation. The 2026 World Championship will be held in Eisenstadt, Austria.
